Day Students at the Academy
Each year since its inception in 2007 the FootballCV Academy has welcomed many day students to join the International students on the full-time football course whilst also studying a BTEC in Sports Studies and/or ‘A’ Levels.
Fees for day students for 2017/18 are £4,995 per year with some limited scholarships of up to £3,000 on offer.
This will include all coaching, kits, equipment, academic studies, guest speakers and some lunchtime/pre-match meals. Any additional costs i.e for excursions, additional meals and exam fees for A/AS level courses are optional. Day students are a vital part of the team and become an integral member of the squad having all the opportunities the fully residential students are offered including the 2nd year trip to a European club and exposure to scouts in the showcase matches.
What's it like for our day students?
On the pitch, it's training or playing matches. Off the pitch, it's relaxing, eating, studying. Whatever activity is taking place during the day, the FCV Academy students are in it together. But what about our day students who don't spend 24 hours a day, seven days a week at Borderville and the Garden House, home to the current crop of aspiring young footballers? Sven Hart fits that category, making the short journey to and from Stamford on a daily basis. But he insists that his day-to-day commute from nearby Oakham has no adverse affect on life at the Academy.
Meet Sven Hart
"I'm just in for the days. I travel 20 minutes maximum to get here so it's really convenient. Even though I'm not at the Garden House, I still feel like I'm part of the team. Just because I'm a day student, nothing changes. The daily routine is all the same, and the atmosphere in the camp is brilliant and great to be a part of. It's really jokey although we remain focused. The team are playing well so spirits are high at the moment."
It has been a strong start to the season for FCV in both the National League Under-19 Alliance and the English Colleges League, losing just once in each so far in 2016/17. Hart has been a regular fixture in the first of those competitions, impressing in the attack, and puts it down to the expert coaching team in place at the Academy. It's not just the coaching that's impressed the teenager either. Hart had plenty of footballing experience before his FCV arrival but, in his eyes, nothing compares to the set-up at the state-of-the-art Borderville complex.
"I'm happy with how I've started the season, I've had a few good games but I've got aspects to improve on of course. I either play out wide or as a striker and I've managed to get among the goals, I got a couple in the first game of the season and have been involved in a couple more since. I've learned so much footballing-wise. I just feel more comfortable playing with the ball, and I'm always getting great advice from Grant [Brown, head coach] and Ben [Watts, assistant head coach] – the coaching team in place is fantastic. When I was younger, I'd been in and out of a few academies and playing for under-18s. The standard is definitely a step up and the facilities here, with the gym across the road too, are amazing. As a team, we're definitely capable of pushing forward and having a great season and winning the leagues we're in. Personally, it's just football for me now, If it doesn't work out then I'll go to university, but I'm doing what I love and I'll see where that takes me."
"In my opinion, FootballCV Academy, is the ingredient that completes what my son needs to succeed. As a parent, that is all that you can hope for, your child to be happy and a success in whatever they choose to do. T’ai is a naturally talented footballer and all that had been missing was that opportunity to be in the perfect position to get great training, an educational qualification and have constant access to a network of professionals from coaches, teachers, scouts and players. Becoming a part of the FCV Academy programme has given him the rest of the tools he needs to reach his full potential. It is such a joy when T’ai comes home and is so passionate about his day. I am truly grateful for what the FCV programme is doing for my son."
